TALLAHASSEE — Governor-Elect Charlie Crist today made a motion to name Gerald Bailey Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Florida Cabinet approved the appointment. In a press conference following today’s Cabinet meeting, Governor-Elect Crist also named Melinda Miguel as Florida’s Chief Inspector General.
“Commissioner Bailey is committed to the safety and security of our state and has provided great leadership at FDLE,” said Governor-Elect Crist. “I am grateful for his, and all the men and women of FDLE, service to the people of Florida.”
Bailey currently serves as Interim FDLE Commissioner and prior to that served as the Inspector General of the Florida Department of Lottery. He has more than 30 years of law enforcement and investigative experience, including service as FDLE’s Deputy Executive Director, Director of the Division of Criminal Investigation, Chief of Crime Laboratories and as a North Carolina state trooper.
“I look forward to working with Governor-Elect Crist to ensure the safety and security of every Floridian,” said Bailey. “I am honored by the opportunity to continue to serve.”
Miguel has served as the Inspector General for Florida Attorney General, Charlie Crist, from January 2003 to December 2006. Miguel has 10 years experience in the Inspector General field which includes service as the Inspector General for the Florida Department of Education and Inspector General for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.
“Ms. Miguel has the integrity, experience and demonstrated commitment to continue serving the people of Florida well,” said Governor-Elect Crist.
