Code of Ethical Conduct for Transition Team Members
ST. PETERSBURG — Governor-elect Charlie Crist today announced details of a code of ethical conduct for his transition team. Crist released a two-page document that outlines the ethics standards that each member of his transition team will be required to follow.
“The essence of public service is public trust based upon the highest standards of ethical conduct. The Crist-Kottkamp Administration will abide by those high standards. Every Floridian has the right to expect the same standards from the members of our transition team. I am requiring all members of my transition team to sign a Transition Code of Ethical Conduct to ensure that they are guided solely by the best interest of the public, and so that the public can have the utmost confidence on the ethical standards of our transition process,” Crist said. “Those dedicated citizens who are helping prepare for our administration should begin to set the ethical standard for those who will serve in our government.”
Crist transition team members will abide by seven major requirements. Among them are:
During an individual’s service on the transition and for one year thereafter, that individual will not be permitted to communicate with or appear before, with the intent to influence, any state agency with respect to which the individual had substantial responsibility during the transition, on behalf of any other person or entity.
Individuals on the transition team will disqualify themselves during the transition from involvement in any particular transition matter which directly conflicts with a financial interest of their own, or their spouse, family member, and business or professional partner.
Individuals involved with the transition will not be permitted to solicit or accept anything of value based upon any understanding that their responsibilities during the transition would be influenced by such a gift.
Crist made the announcement of the Code of Ethical Conduct at a news conference in St. Petersburg. A complete copy of the two-page transition code of ethical conduct is attached for your information.
